Reposting for prosperity

Re-post from Facebook on January 11 at 12:38PM
Just got out of my physical. Doc said my numbers were excellent and I probably added 15 years on my life from losing the 80 pounds (and a bit surprised I could do it while on estradiol). Just waiting for the blood work and I'm one step closer to going home... I mean going to Mars.

Medical Form Away

So, I put off sending out the medical form for a couple days, as I thought I could email it to myself at work.  I got it back on Friday after work, so I wasn't putting it off long.  I got in to work and went over to the multi-function printer and tried to email it.  For some reason, I can't enter email addresses to the To or From or any of that.  It kept complaining that I didn't have anything in there.  I even tried so much as rebooting the stupid thing.  Still no luck.  So, either I don't have the permissions to email from that, or it's broken.  Either could be it.

Anyway, I figure, fine, there's gotta be a place I can scan this thing somewhere.  I go on Google and it tells me to go to FedEx, even found one that's not too far off my normal way home.  So, end of the day I head over there.  I end up passing by my old place of work, the East Rutherford Operating Center (EROC) of the Federal Reserve.  The song playing at the time? Honey I'm Home by Shania Twain. :)

I head in and there's 2 multi-function printers in the self service area.  I first try one, then the other.  They both complain about not being able to send it out.  So I ask the guy behind the counter. "Yeah, those don't send, you have to use the computers in the back".... >:(  .  Would have been nice for them to put a stupid sign, or better yet, disable that function.

So, I go to the back and waste another 5 minutes scanning it in and sending it to myself and making sure it went through.  Got home and sent it in.  I am one step closer to Mars.  Totally worth the aggravation, as long as I get to complain about it. :)

The girl that didn't belong, the game that got her through it, and the chance of something more.

There once was a girl who never felt like she belonged, not even in her own body.  She had a family and occasionally friends, but at the end of the day, she would stew over how much she hated her life.  She'd lose herself in books, TV shows, movies, and video games about other worlds, other realities, other planets where she thought she might find a place where she could feel like she belonged, because she couldn't find a place like that on Earth.

Then, one day, she found an online game called Toadwater.  It was small, not a lot of people played it, but it had a great community, filled with great people, many of whom also didn't feel like they belonged anywhere.  It was a depository of misfit toys that somehow fit together.  She found a place that she could almost feel like she belonged, if only online.

Back in May of 2013, she heard about an effort to colonize Mars, one that was taking average people as candidates.  She didn't think she had a chance in hell but she applied anyway.  The project was called Mars One.

In December, Mars One chose from the over 200,000 people who applied only 1058 to move on to the next round, for a chance at one of only 24 slots.  This girl, who never belonged, who was lost from the very first moment of her life, was one of those candidates.  She now has a chance to go to one of those other planets that she always lost herself in, and best of all, she'll get to bring Toadwater with her.

So, here's to Cassandra Morphy, the girl who doesn't belong on Earth, and her slim chance at seeing Mars.

Another idea that will never get made

Came up with this idea while scraping the ice off my car.  There's a half destroyed apple symbol on my back windshield.  This was put there by this guy I met in my insurance certification class that I had a Mac Vs. PC discussion with (he's a Mac, but cute).

So, anyway, I was thinking, a Mac symbol decked out like Darth Vader with a PC symbol (the block PC that shows up on PC games) decked out like a jedi.  They'd, of course, have their light sabers out and be fighting each other.  Darth Mac and Luke PC.

Mars One 2: The Dream Lives On

So, as I've mentioned a couple times, a few months back I applied to go to Mars in 2023 (since postponed to 2025) and guess what? I actually made it to the next round of selections.  That's right, I'm one of Mars One's 1058.  I found out a couple weeks ago and I've thought of posting something on here but I got out of the habit of updating this blog (as it just became more of a food journal and I've stopped caring about keeping one).

So, woohoo!!!

Course, I still haven't done any news interviews, unlike most of the 1058 but I've been keeping pretty active on the Facebook groups.  I'd be fine doing some interviews to toot my own horn but the others of the 1058 have proven themselves to be more than capable to toot the horn of the project itself.

I just think I'd be better at doing some more out of the box items like going to Time Square for New Years Eve with a sign that says "I may be going to Mars in 2025, ask me how", something I was really considering doing on Dec 30th, or trying to get on the Daily Show.

I'm probably not going to worry about it, at least not until next round when they'd be more likely to care about the people who made it that far than just the project itself.  The project is great, this isn't me being egotistical or anything, I just think I'm the only one who can toot my horn but the orchestra pit for the project is a bit full at the moment.

So, as you can see, I stopped updating this a long time ago (and will be erasing a lot of these postings cause they're stupid and I don't even care about them anymore).  All none of you who will ever read this are probably wondering if I ever hit my target.  I did and I didn't.  I look awesome (or at least as close to awesome as I'll ever get without magic) but didn't lose all the weight I wanted to.  I lost enough to make the whole effort worthwhile though.  Right now I'm working towards getting my metabolism back up so I can go back to eating whatever I want and not gaining weight.  That's the dream now at least.
